Membership

The Duquesne Law Review is a student-run academic journal that publishes scholarly works by Duquesne Law students and legal professionals. Members are responsible for writing and editing works for publication and for performing other duties as assigned.

Membership on Duquesne Law Review is highly prized. As such, this site is meant to demystify the process regarding invitation for membership. There are two ways in which a student may receive an offer; a student can grade-on or write-on. The overwhelming majority of students invited to the Law Review are offered membership based upon their class ranking at the end of their first year. Those students enrolled in the evening or part-time day programs are offered grade-on membership after completing their second year at Duquesne.

For all students, the important number to remember is 15%; the top 15% of each section is invited, as well as the top 15% of the class as a whole. (Part time day students are ranked against their day peers, while evening students are ranked against other evening students.) Those of you who meet these qualifications will be invited to join us on the Law Review as soon as the rankings are posted, usually sometime in July.

Students who do not rank in the top 15% may still be invited to become members. Once a year, the Duquesne Law Review invites eligible students to participate in a writing/editing competition resulting in 1-3 winners who will be offered membership based solely upon the results of the competition; your class ranking and grades are not considered in this competition. The write-on competition provides an avenue for membership to those students who are both excellent writers and superior editors. Information on the write-on competition is usually provided to eligible students towards the end of the spring semester.
